ARISE Team Restoration

Team #156

South Island race course selected
Open, South Island5 bikes "Riding hard to set others free!"

Our team

Our team will be cycling 700kms from 1-8 April on the Tour of New Zealand to raise funds to rescue children from sex trafficking!

Human trafficking is a truly terrible and growing problem. Right now about two million children are trafficked for sex every year. The combined total for women and children is 4.5 million (about the population of NZ). The average age of victims trafficked into prostitution is 12 years old. Even worse, only 1-2% of victims are ever rescued! When we first read the statistics they seemed to be a bit cold and distant. But then we started thinking about it, and thought to ourselves “what if that was my kids, trapped, scared, raped multiple times a day, with no hope?"

Well the good news is, together with Tearfund, we are going to be part of putting a dent in this cruel trade in human misery! Our team has has committed to raising at least $25,000 in sponsorship.

With $25,000, for example, we can be confident that we have funded a brothel raid ($5,000 each raid), provided 20 care packages for victims straight after they are rescued ($100 each), helped 4 girls get the HIV treatment they need ($3000 each), and provided aftercare and social work help for 3 rescued girls ($2,000 each). If we raise more, we can do even more!

Please be generous and sponsor us!

You are a modern day hero or heroine! Thanks for partnering with us to make a difference for lives that don’t have the freedom, resources, and opportunities that we take for granted.

Chosen charity

tearfund

Tearfund. Cycle for Tearfund and you will be joining a community on the move for freedom! Tearfund is a registered charity committed to the cycling space. Child sex trafficking is a scourge devastating an estimated 4.5 million children and shattering vulnerable communities around the world. This is called modern day slavery due to its scale and growth and it needs all of our attention and action.
Sex slavery generates an estimated US$100 billion for criminal networks every year, according to the International Labour Organisation (ILO). By joining Tearfund you will join the fight for freedom helping our full circle approach bringing: prevention/protection, rescue and prosecution and of course restoration and empowerment. Last year our partner Nvader, a 100% Kiwi led team, were responsible for over 50% of Thailand's human trafficking convictions. You'll be supporting an effective team bringing results and changing lives and you'll get to meet Ralph Simpson a Kiwi lawyer who now leads the Nvader team as country director.
