Professional cycle coach Paul Odlin of Odlin Cycle Coaching has been helping beginner to elite cyclists enjoy and improve their road cycling to new levels for the last 5 years. Paul is the Tour of New Zealand's official cycle coach and advisor, in addition to providing coaching advice through the Tour's official website Paul will be riding alongside participants in the 2017 Tour of New Zealand.
Here are the first three key training tips for those signed up for the 2017 Tour:
Enjoyment :if you want something to be sustainable and motivating for an extended period, finding the fun element in your training is essential. Why would you want to do it if it wasn't going to be fun!
Set S.M.A.R.T. goals (Specific; Measurable; Attainable; Realistic and Time specific): you can have a pie in the sky goal (I always do) but you need to have some more achievable intermediate goals that you can tick off along the way so you can see your progress.
Frequency of training: the key to having a successful training programme is including a frequent weekly basis of training into your week. So if you are really busy keep sessions short - this will help you create a routine for your body and mind to become familiar with the demands of the Tour.
A personalized interactive preparation programme for the 2017 Tour is available to you. I will cover with you issues of wise ways to get bike fit, what to eat and drink, clothing, bunch riding, interval training, resting, hillclimbing and even sprint tactics! There is a small investment on your behalf but the investment reaps dividends that are fundamental to riding 7 days 7 stages and 700 kms, at your best and safely. Contact me today by email and we will design something to fit you, just where you are now and where you want to get to.
